What is CoolSculpting?
A nutritious, well-balanced diet and regular exercise are important elements of a healthy and happy life. Sometimes, however, diet and exercise are not enough to maintain or achieve the appearance that patients desire. In the past, the only way to address stubborn pockets of fat that do not respond to specific exercise was through liposuction. While an effective treatment for many people, liposuction can pose certain risks, like any surgical treatment.
Today, advanced dermatologic research has resulted in new alternatives to surgery for fat reduction. CoolSculpting by Zeltiq is based upon the science of cryolipolysis, a concept that was developed by physician-scientists at a Harvard University affiliated hospital. Drs. Dieter Manstein and R. Rox Anderson noted that when children ate popsicles, dimples in their cheeks emerged. The dimples were caused by a reduction in fat cells. CoolSculpting uses cryolipolysis to freeze targeted fat cells without invading or damaging the skin or surrounding tissues.
Zeltiq’sCoolSculpting has been recognized as the fastest growing medical device and offers several advantages over traditional liposuction, such as:
- less risk of complications
- no significant downtime
- non-invasive treatment
- less expensive
- fewer activity restrictions
- minimal discomfort or soreness
