More than a million Americans are diagnosed with skin cancer each year. The most common cancers are non-melanoma basal and squamous cell carcinomas. Advances in science and the field of dermatology have now made it easier to understand the impact of skin cancer, and to recognize the signs of skin cancer early. When detected and treated early, most skin cancers are curable.
Though melanoma is the most feared, most serious form of skin cancer, it is also the least common of the three types. As we gain a greater understanding of the potential causes of the various types of skin cancer, we enable patients to take better care of their skin and avoid the consequences of this concerning disease.
One way in which protection from skin cancer is achieved is through skin cancer screening. People of all ages are encouraged to become thoroughly familiar with their own skin through monthly self-examinations and professional skin cancer screenings with our dermatologist. In our offices in Stafford and Arlington, patients will receive a high standard of care from a board certified dermatologist with specific experience in the area of skin cancer detection and treatment.

Dr. Neal is very compassionate and very thorough. His knowledge of the skin and diseases is solid. I also was very impressed with his surgical abilities for my skin cancer. The area where I had surgery for skin cancer healed very well. I have friends that had cosmetic facial stuff done by him and they are also very pleased. I can’t see myself going to anyone else other than Dr. Neal for my skin concerns. He has a gift that can’t be taught. I wholeheartedly endorse Dr. Neal and I highly recommend that if you have skin problems or need surgery for a skin cancer this is the doctor that you want. My friends agree.
Seeing our dermatologist for a full-body skin cancer screening can be a great way to kick off your skin savvy routine. During a professional skin cancer screening, our dermatologist will be able to give you peace of mind that existing spots, moles, or freckles are normal, or provide treatment for any suspicious marks. From this initial examination, you will have a better idea of what to look for when performing self-examinations at home.
In combination with self-examinations, annual skin cancer screenings with our dermatologist are part of the small investment into your general health and wellbeing. These screenings are what may alert you to a potential problem. The more familiar you and your dermatologist are with your skin, the more quickly you will recognize the changes that signal skin cancer.
