We now have a third treatment option to reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles on the forehead, between the brows, and around the eyes. Botox gained FDA approval in 2002, followed by Dysport, years later, in 2009. Most recently, in 2011, the FDA approved Xeomin, the latest neuromodulator solution, for cosmetic use. Though Botox remains the most recognized of the three treatments, and has had a huge following, there are reasons Xeomin may be the recommended treatment for some of our Arlington, VA patients.

Like Botox and Dysport, Xeomin may be used to reduce the signs of aging such as:
- Glabellar lines, or furrows between the brows
- Crow’s feet
- Furrows across the forehead
- Platysmal bands, which run across the neck
Some professionals call Xeomin “naked Botox” because this new solution is completely free of any additives. This is the primary difference between Xeomin and the previous two wrinkle-reducers. Without additives, Xeomin is less likely to cause the development of antibodies in the patient.
Treatment takes only minutes in our office after you have discussed the various treatment options to achieve your desired appearance. Dr. Neal is a fellowship trained, board certified dermatologist with years of experience using this and other wrinkle-reducing medications, which means that your treatment will be quick, comfortable, and productive. Injections are administered with a tiny needle, and the precise amount is injected into the muscle to produce a natural, beautiful result. Following treatment, slight swelling or bruising may appear, diminishing very quickly.
Xeomin works on the muscles beneath the skin to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and lines. The effect of treatment comes from the relaxation of overused muscles, so visible results are not immediately achieved. Over the course of five to ten days, muscles become less affected by signals from the nerves, which cause contraction. As the muscles relax beneath the skin, wrinkles progressively disappear. The results of Xeomin treatment last about four months, after which results may be preserved with subsequent treatments.
