Acne is a skin condition in which inflammation occurs subsequent to clogged pores. Pores clog as oil and sebum, a waxy substance, accumulate with dead skin cells within these tiny holes. When pores become clogged, they are the ideal environment for bacteria.

Because of bacteria, pores become inflamed, swollen, red, and sometimes will become filled with infection. Not all acne produces scars. Inflammatory acne in which pores rupture under the pressure of infection, and pimples that are squeezed or popped, may cause temporary or permanent discoloration or scarring.

Acne breakouts have many names, dependent on where they form and on their unique characteristics. What matters more than accurately naming your acne is finding a solution for breakouts so that you can return to a greater level of confidence in your appearance. This problem is not isolated to teens, men and women of all ages can develop acne breakouts, which may occur on the face, neck, chest, back, and buttocks. If acne occurs on a body part that rubs against clothing, the friction can cause further irritation.
